Welcome to the
Salterns Academy Trust
Our approach is inclusive and student-centred, leading to high ambition for all and a caring, supportive environment for every student
CEO Welcome
The Salterns Academy Trust exists to serve the community of Portsmouth. We run three successful and fast-growing schools in the city, providing the opportunities for over 3500 young people to be the very best that they can be across both primary and secondary phases .
We are proud to be student-centred, inclusive, celebratory and very aspirational because we know that our students and their families deserve the best and we know too that excellent education changes lives.
We are a caring and supportive employer of over 450 staff of whom we have the same high expectations. We work in partnership with GLF Schools (a Multi-Academy Trust) on school improvement and staff training. We also work in partnership with the HISP Learning Partnership (our local teaching school hub) as a delivery partner for training for Early Careers Teachers and their mentors in Portsmouth as well as the National Professional Qualifications for school leaders.
Constantly striving to improve, we welcome opportunities to work collaboratively with organisations both within Portsmouth and beyond who can help us to meet our vision for our students. This includes the Portsmouth City Council, the University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth Education Partnership and the Royal Navy as well as other schools, colleges and multi–academy trusts.

Our Academies
Admiral Lord Nelson School
The school is ambitious for all our students. We are committed to providing the very highest quality education as well as a caring and emotionally supportive environment.
Trafalgar School
Our students talk enthusiastically about our values of respect, community, resilience, aspiration and inclusion. They understand how these contribute to the school's caring atmosphere.
Mayfield School
Mayfield School is an exciting place to be. It is a community that holds relationships at its core, committed to developing a culture of high challenge and high support. Mayfield School is at the heart of a thriving and diverse local community. Being a single-site, all-through school provides us with a unique opportunity to join together for an educational purpose, to improve and shape the lives of the children (Year R – Year 11) in our learning community
Pupils are safe in school. The environment is calm, with a tangible sense of togetherness. Staff care about all pupils and look after their welfare. There is a strong family ethos that involves the whole school community.
Pupils thrive and feel safe in this highly inclusive school. Staff ensure that pupils receive the precise help they need… They take pride in each other’s successes and take great care to not ‘harm the community’ feel of the school through unkind behaviour. Sanctions for poor behaviour are uncommon because pupils do their best to comply with the high expectations of staff.
